A Few Quick and Easy #Baby Food #Recipes

Below, I shared some of Journey’s favorite baby food recipes that are easy to prepare.  I have many more to share, so please post a comment if you would like me to add more.

Homemade Applesauce—A classic favorite!

Ingredients:

6 apples (Gala, Braeburn, Golden Delicious or Fuji)

Cinnamon to taste

Directions:

  1. Peel, core and cut apples into squares
  2. Cover with water and boil until tender
  3. Drain, but do not discard juice
  4. When apples have cooled, add them to food processor with a bit of the apple juice (for thicker applesauce, use less juice)
  5. Add cinnamon to taste
  6. Blend until smooth
  7. Pack in individual containers and refrigerate or freeze

Note:  To create other flavors, you can add strawberries or any other fruit in place of cinnamon.

Peas with Fresh Mint—The mint adds a nice refreshing flavor

Ingredients:

Peas (fresh or frozen)

Fresh mint sprigs

Directions:

  1. Boil peas until tender
  2. Drain, but do not discard water
  3. When peas have cooled, add them to food processor with a bit of the water
  4. Finely chop a few sprigs of the mint and add to the food processor
  5. Blend until smooth (add water if you think mixture is too thick)
  6. Pass the mixture through a strainer to remove the skins from the mixture.  Repeat until smooth.
  7. Pack in individual containers and refrigerate or freeze

Golden Beets with Raisins—A naturally sweet surprise!

Ingredients:

1 bunch of golden beets

¼ cup of raisins

Dash of cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Remove greens from beets and discard
  2. Clean beets
  3. Cover with water and boil until tender
  4. After the beets have cooled, peel and add to food processor with raisins
  5. Add a bit of water and blend until smooth
  6. Add a little bit of water at a time, until you achieve the desired texture
  7. Pack in individual containers and refrigerate or freeze

Fresh Pears and Kiwi—This combination is amazing.  My favorite!

Ingredients:

3 ripe pears

1 ripe kiwi

Directions:

  1. Peel, core and cut up pears
  2. Cover with water and boil until tender (do not overcook)
  3. Drain, but do not discard juice
  4. When pears have cooled, add them to food processor with a bit of the apple juice
  5. Peel and cut the kiwi and add to food processor
  6. Add a bit of the pear juice and blend until smooth
  7. Pass the mixture through a strainer or a sieve to remove kiwi seeds.  Repeat until smooth.
  8. Pack in individual containers and refrigerate or freeze

Note: You can replace the pears with strawberries to create another yummy flavor

Spinach with Bananas—This surprising mix of flavors is a great way to introduce dark leafy greens.

Ingredients:

2 bags of fresh spinach

1/2 ripe banana

Directions:

  1. Steam spinach until wilted
  2. Drain and add to food processor
  3. Add the banana
  4. Blend until smooth
  5. You can add more banana until desired flavor is reached
  6. Pack in individual containers and refrigerate or freeze
